Each year, over 17,000 children receive cardiovascular care from Norton Children’s Heart Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. For those children and their entire family-support networks, our pediatric cardiologists and heart surgeons provide the comprehensive care they need, from before birth to teenage years and beyond. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons rated Norton Children’s Heart Institute among the best in the region after studying years of our patients’ outcomes and our ability to treat a range of pediatric heart conditions, including the most severe. As the need for specialized care in this field continues to grow, we’re embarking upon a visionary growth plan to further transform and improve pediatric cardiovascular care within our community and beyond. We hope you’ll join us as our Journey to Excellence continues.

Our Journey to Excellence
Norton Children’s Heart Institute’s board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric cardiologists, heart surgeons and professional staff provide expert care to children with congenital heart defects, heart failure and acquired heart conditions, performing over 17,500 procedures each year. As Kentucky’s only pediatric heart transplant center, Norton Children’s Hospital has been a pioneer in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, performing Kentucky’s first pediatric heart transplant
in 1986 and becoming the second site in the United States to perform an infant heart transplant.
The recent opening of the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Norton Children’s Hospital continues a legacy of donor supported advanced pediatric heart care in Louisville. This state-of-the-art facility has 17 private rooms, including three for newborns, and is the largest dedicated CICU in Kentucky. In addition to our growth in Louisville, Norton Children’s Heart Institute now has 15 outreach clinics, 28 tele-echocardiography locations, and five fetal echocardiography locations across Kentucky and Southern Indiana. We are committed to that continued growth in outreach areas for patients and their families to have greater access to quality care.
Critical investments in infrastructure, programs, and expertise will ensure that our community remains home to a premier pediatric cardiovascular center of excellence well into the future. Through this comprehensive campaign, we have the opportunity to transform heart care for the children of our communities. We invite you to make a philanthropic investment that will leave a lasting legacy and ensure the future of world-class care—right around the corner.
“Norton Children’s is committed to establishing the division of pediatric cardiology, and the specialty of pediatric heart failure and transplant, as a center of excellence in the region.”
